The Pioneer levels

The guide lists Hiker, Backpacker, Climber, Outdoorsman, and Adventurer. Each level combines required topics with elective topics. Higher levels give more room for electives.

What the published Hiker guide lists

The archived instructions originally opened the Hiker requirements and electives first, with more levels to follow as participants progressed.

Lessons, quizzes, and demonstrations

The original guide describes studying a lesson, taking a quiz, and providing a photo or file for some demonstrations. It also describes including the participant’s first and last name on paper in the demonstration photo so the work can be identified.
